NO campaign launch three-pronged poster campaign reinforcing key reasons to defend one person, one vote

- Keep our simple and fair voting system
- Only three countries use AV. Why on earth would we want it?
- The Real Cost of AV: £250 million
With just 10 days to go until polling day, the NO to AV campaign have today released the three posters for a national advertising campaign that will run through to 5 May.
The three-pronged poster campaign focuses on the three key messages put forward by NO to AV: that AV is complicated, expensive and obscure.
Joan Ryan, Deputy Campaign Director of NO to AV, said:
“While the Yes to AV campaign is avoiding the debate on the Alternative Vote by plastering Nick Griffin all over their posters, at NO to AV we are dealing with the three key issues at stake in this referendum. Does the UK want a more complicated voting system which is used by only three other countries and which will cost £250 million? If you think the answer is ‘no’, you should vote NO and defend One Person, One Vote on 5 May.”
Matthew Elliott, Campaign Director of NO to AV, added:
“Although the polls are showing that people don’t want to switch to AV, we can’t afford to be complacent. That’s why we will be making the case loud and clear over the next 10 days, to make sure that the UK votes to keep One Person, One Vote on 5 May.”
Notes to editors
- BNP welcome ‘free publicity’ of YES to AV campaign posters. The BNP’s former Deputy Chairman, Simon Darby, welcomed the Yes campaign’s posters on his blog when they were trailed in the newspapers, saying: ‘Lots of free, valuable publicity on the back of AV debate just before the elections. However, this billboard campaign, detailed in today’s Independent on Sunday, should boost our vote significantly. Source: http://simondarby.blogspot.com/2011/04/freebie.html. Another BNP supporter commented: ‘Great news. Lots of people will see our stand and agree with us.’ (source: http://simondarby.blogspot.com/2011/04/freebie.html#IDComment139633680 )
